What is Theraputic Ultrasound?

Therapeutic ultrasound is a gentle, non-invasive treatment used to support healing, reduce discomfort, and improve mobility in horses. Using sound waves delivered through a handheld device, the treatment reaches deep into soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

The ultrasound creates a soothing warming effect within the tissue, helping to increase circulation, reduce tension, and encourage the body’s natural healing process. It can also be used at a lower setting for acute injuries where inflammation needs to be managed without heat.

          Therapeutic ultrasound may help with:

  • Muscle tightness and soreness

  • Tendon and ligament injuries

  • Scar tissue and adhesions

  • Back and neck discomfort

  • Joint stiffness

  • Swelling and inflammation

  • Supporting recovery after injury

Every horse is treated as an individual, and sessions are always adapted to their comfort level and needs. I take a calm, horse-led approach, allowing horses the time and space they need to relax and accept treatment at their own pace.

Many horses find ultrasound treatment comfortable and relaxing, especially when introduced patiently and respectfully. The goal is always to support your horse’s wellbeing, comfort, and long-term movement.

If I feel your horse would benefit from therapeutic ultrasound during their massage treatment, it can be included as part of the session. I do not charge extra.

For therapeutic ultrasound to be most effective, follow-up treatments are usually recommended.

The number of sessions needed will depend on your horse’s individual needs, the condition being treated, and how they respond to treatment. Consistency often provides the best results and supports long-term healing and comfort.
